Tom Otieno Ogal
My name is Tom Otieno Ogal, a recent graduate from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology. I participated in three impactful programs: a short-term program, an online exchange, and an online course. These experiences broadened my perspective, particularly on local foods, and equipped me with skills to identify local issues and develop strategic solutions. I also gained an appreciation for teamwork and the value of a diverse team.
Using my acquired knowledge, I am working to promote the consumption of local and indigenous foods, especially vegetables, and to document methods for preparing traditional dishes. I am also monitoring calorie intake to help mitigate lifestyle-related diseases linked to diet.
In the future, I aspire to enter a role where I can influence policy and practices that enhance nutrition in Africa, leveraging technology and outreach to foster healthier communities.
